I read somewhere that Barry Hannah was a writers writer. Not very well known outside literary circles and certainly not a best selling author. But somebody that you had to read.
He won several awards including the Pen/Malamud Award and on this recommendation I purchased ‘Airships’, a collection of short stories.
It’s not often that I say this about a book but I HATED IT!! Each of the stories was pointless, the characters were odious and the language was coarse.
I will find another book of Hannah’s to read and maybe that will show what all the fuss is about.
